Princess Beatrice Royal Wedding hat is auctioned on eBay

Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew the Duke of York, has put the infamous hat she wore to the Royal Wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton for sale on eBay.

The hat which was designed by Philip Treacy caused a stir on the day of the Royal Wedding with very mixed views and opinions on it.

Some thought it was ridiculous, many just thought it was too flamboyant, others liked it, some even thought it was part of a plot by Sarah Ferguson to take the limelight away from the Royal Wedding couple William and Kate. A little far-fetched perhaps...

Regardless, some good has come out of it all as the proceeds from the eBay auction will all go in aid of UNICEF and Children In Crisis.

Princess Beatrice commented 'I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted. It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with it as I have.'

The first bid of £5,000 was made by Duncan Bannatyne a wealthy celebrity entrepreneur in the UK most famous for his role as a dragon in the UK's version of Dragon's Den.

As it stands today there have been 15 bids to date and the highest bid is for £6,400.

The hat is described as 'A unique sculptural celebratory headpiece in a delicate tea rose silk, designed by one of the UK's most creative and influential milliners Philip Treacy. A truly individual, fun but elegant wedding bow becomes the fascinator form. This statement piece is worn on the front hairline secured by a clear wire headband that is easily disguised by the wearer's hair. This is a gravity defying hat!'

If that doesn't tempt you to bid for it, nothing will! If you want to place a bid you can do so here.
